European Scouting Update: Ukraine (video)

The Ukrainian league might not be classed as that obscure anymore and there are certainly some world-class players that play for the top clubs, notably Shakhtar Donetsk and Dynamo Kiev.  One 23-year-old is setting a blistering pace for others trying to make a name for themselves in what can be a difficult league.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan has scored 15 goals in 13 games so far this season in all competitions for Shakhtar Donetsk.  Henrikh spearheads the attack of a team in blistering form, Donetsk have won all 10 of their games this season in the league and have yet to be beaten in this years champions league.

Henrikh is also an impressive player on the international stage, having been capped 33 times for Armenia scoring eight goals.  Believe it or not this makes him the second top goal scorer for Armenia of all time, he only needs four more to take the title.  Mkhitaryan scored six of his eight goals in the qualifying campaign for Euro 2012, making him the top scorer in Group B.

Henrikh has a bright future and at such a young age could already be put down as one of his country’s greatest ever players.
