Every now and again, there is a player that comes along that will cause major teams across Europe to scramble over themselves to sign him. This, of course, relates to Everton, Liverpool, Arsenal and Inter Milan target Lewis Holtby.
The FC Schalke 04 midfielder is out of contract over the summer, which has seen interest in the 22-year-old rise significantly. An impressive performance against the Gunners during the 2-0 defeat to the Bundesliga outfit will only see interest from the North London side increase considerably.
The Germany international is a boyhood Everton fan, but has admitted in the past he wouldn’t be against move to the Emirates Stadium. On top of that, Holtby has regularly confessed his dream to play in the Premier League.
Whoever wins the race to sign the Schalke star will be securing the signature of a prodigious startlet that will only get better. Holtby has begun to showcase his capability to the watching world, having netted seven league goals in 37 appearances for Schalke since his debut in 2009.
As previously mentioned, Holtby’s current deal runs out next summer, meaning he is eligible to discuss a potential move to teams across the continent. While his agent admits that talks are ongoing regarding a new deal, there is the possibility that he can leave for free once his contract expires.
Liverpool are thought to have lodged a bid for the midfielder, but with Holtby a boyhood Toffee, he is likely to turn down the Reds in favour of Everton. However, they will be forced to battle with Arsenal for his signature, with the two believed to be leading the race for the 22-year-old, regardless of the interest from Inter.
