Scott Sinclair should never have left Swansea
Missing – Scott Sinclair. Does anybody remember what 23-year-old looks like, let alone his playing ability? The former England U-21 international joined Manchester City over the summer following two excellent seasons with Swansea City, where the wideman helped the Jacks to promotion to the Premiership for the first time in their history.
Now, one has to admit that when a team of City’s stature comes calling, it’s hard to turn them down. However, when a previous occupant of the position Sinclair has taken up is struggling for first-team football, referring of course to Adam Johnson who left for Sunderland over the summer, then one has to wonder how a player, such as Sinclair, will ever break into the first-team.
When City’s initial interest was first made public, it was taken with a pinch of salt. Granted, Sinclair is a good player, but with the attacking talent available to manager Roberto Mancini, in the likes of David Silva, Samir Nasri and, ahem, James Milner, the former Bristol Rovers academy product was always going to find first-team football available, as evident by his three appearances since his move to the Etihad Stadium.
Many are of the opinion that Sinclair should’ve remained with Swansea and you would hard pressed to find anyone to disagree with the statement, regardless as to what the Team GB star says. His development is likely to be hindered as a result of a lack of playing time and while his input will be increasingly highlighted due to his arrival at City, but he is likely to become a forgotten man at the club, unless he can somehow break into Mancini’s starting XI.
