Remember when Wigan’s left back scored Maynor Figueroa scored that incredible goal in 2009 from inside is own half? That was ridiculous. Figueroa has been a regular starter for Wigan going on nearly four years and he does a decent enough job. I think it would be fair to say that manager Roberto Martinez gets the best out of him.
It appears that the only goals Figueroa scores, however, are of the spectacular kind. In 133 appearances, he has only scored three goals. One was a winner against the Spurs and the other was that superlative long range effort against Stoke in 2009.
The third came against Nottingham Forest in the opening round of this year’s Capital One Cup and it was an absolute thunderbolt. If he keeps going at the rate of just under a goal a season, expect Figueroa’s next masterpiece to come sometime in 2014!
