In terms of natural goalscorers, there are few rivals to that of FC Schalke 04 front-man Klaas Jan Huntelaar. The powerful Dutchman was again on target for the Bundesliga giants during the 2-2 draw with Arsenal on Tuesday night with a strike that all but typifies the man dubbed ‘The Hunter’.

Unsurprisingly, interest is high in the burly striker, who netted 48 times in 47 times for the German side last season. Anfield has been mooted as a potential destination for Huntelaar, with Liverpool believed to be keeping tabs on the front-man.

However, they look set to face stiff competition from Tottenham Hotspur, who are also believed to be in the market for a new striker. Both clubs are keen on strengthening their respective front-lines and it is no shock to have seen them earmark the 29-year-old, with his goalscoring exploits a testimony to his knack of knowing where the net is.

His age means he is coming to the twilight of his career, but with some suggesting he is available for as little as £7m, both teams would be foolhardy to turn down the opportunity to sign Huntelaar, should it present itself.

With just 18 months left to run on his current deal, Schalke will be undoubtedly keen on tying him down to a new long-term deal, meaning both Spurs and Liverpool would have to act swiftly if they are to convince him to leave Germany and move to England.

Yet, with Huntelaar, both teams would be moving for a player whose record speaks for itself. The player is capable of excelling in the duo’s current system and would more or less improve the pairings fortunes on the pitch; a factor of upmost importance considering the expectations of both Spurs and Liverpool fans.
