What next for QPR?

With the news this morning that Queens Park Rangers owner Tony Fernandes has finally lost his patience with Mark Hughes, the big questions is who will replace the Welshman at the helm and can they save QPR’s season?

The odds on favourite is Harry Redknapp who is poised to come in and replace Hughes. Old ‘Arry (don’t mention rosie47!) is the popular choice and, after his outstanding work with Tottenham, QPR fans will be hoping he can replicate some of that managerial magic at Loftus Road.

Undoubtedly, Redknapp is a fantastic manager and the man for the job. First and foremost, however, the main priority is to get that first win of the season as psychologically that must be having an affect on the players. The longer the winless streak goes on the longer it will take to get QPR out of the drop zone and Redknapp must initially focus on getting over that mental hurdle of winning those first three points.

QPR have a fantastic squad and it is a great mystery how Hughes was unable to at least win one game with the talent at his disposal. Perhaps the problem was that instead of being able to instil a sense of togetherness in the squad, Hughes was trying to manage lots of different individual egos which resulted in the poor form on the pitch.

Redknapp has the skills to get the squad playing as a team and for each other which will be integral to their chances of surviving in the Premier League this season.

Hughes was given many chances to right the ship at QPR and too many times he was unable to do it. Fernandes and QPR’s board showed extreme patience and faith in Hughes and, unfortunately, he could not repay with the results they wanted.

It is a new chapter for QPR now and there must be a sense of optimism and hope now that ‘Arry is taking over the reins.
