It emerged today that out of favour Chelsea striker Daniel Sturridge has issued a string of demands to his prospective new owners if he is to secure a move to Liverpool. The England international been strongly linked with a move to Anfield after failing to breaking into the Blues first-team.
Used predominantly out of position under Andre Villas-Boas before being overlooked by Roberto Di Matteo, it comes as no surprise to hear that Sturridge is more than likely available to leave the club.
There are those that are apprehensive about acquiring the 23-year-old, but the former Manchester City trainee could be exactly what Liverpool need. It’s no secret that the Reds are lacking firepower up front, with only Luis Suarez available to manager Brendan Rodgers at present.
Having netted only one every four games or so for the Blues, the fact that Sturridge isn’t the vocal point of the attacking line is the reason why. When utilised effectively, the striker can be a useful weapon for any manager – his eight goals in 12 games for Bolton Wanderers during his loan stint with the Trotters in the 2010/11 season a testament to this.
If Rodgers can bring out the best in the player, Liverpool could well be laughing, should they sign the striker. If playing through the centre, it is more than likely that the Reds will benefit from his striking prowess, while the player himself also confirmed that the reports of his demands are false – a boost to Liverpool’s chances of signing him.
