AFC Wimbledon (as they are called now) have had a rather tumultuous couple of years. All that relegation business with all that MK Dons business and then renaming themselves and then promotions: it’s all happened to the team from south west London.
But, looking back into the annals of time, they have a flair for the dramatic, namely their first season in the top flight in 1986-87. The Crazy Gang finished sixth, beat United home and away, reached the quarter finals of the FA Cup and Vinnie Jones was in his brilliant prime, scoring the winner against United on his debut. What more could you ask for?
Heady times for Wimbledon back then and fans will hope that the team can continue climb through the lower leagues until it reaches the top flight once again after overcoming the most difficult and trying period in the club’s history.
