What Next for Blackburn?

After being comprehensively beaten at home 4-1 by Cardiff on Friday evening, Henning Berg is still looking for his first home win as Rovers manager.

Berg and his blue and white army need to put a good run together if they are to bounce back to the Premier League at the first time of asking. If after the Christmas and New Year period Rovers are still languishing mid table or below, then this will not be the successful season everybody expected.

Berg’s focus will now be on the trip to Blackpool, with only one win in his last eight games, Berg has a worst record than former boss Steve Kean. Rovers are poor at the back, and at times not as solid as they should be in midfield. Cardiff caused them countless problems with a good display of speed and movement that Rovers could not deal with.

Henning Berg wants everyone who follows Rovers to stay calm because the club is not far away from being a promotion winning side. Really!! From what I have seen and read we are a million miles away at the moment Mr Berg. On paper Rovers look to have a decent side one of the best in the Championship you could say. But for some reason they are just not clicking together.

Fans are becoming more concerned week by week now Berg has not managed to produce a perfect start, but the boss does insist they are not ruling out a promotion bid anytime in the near future.

Berg is not denying that there needs to be big improvements in all positions, but he feels this will be addressed over the next few weeks.

Berg:  “The target is still promotion”.

Of course it is, you cannot say otherwise, that’s why you are here. Promotion is the target, but over the last few weeks it is becoming more and more like the same old Rovers.

Berg: “Yes we are disappointed with the result, yes we are disappointed with some of the performances, but we are not a million miles away in that we played the league leaders in a tight and even game, football wise that ended not an even game in terms of the result.”

Rovers did create chances in Friday’s game against Cardiff, but it’s in other areas that Rovers have more pressing problems to make the team become a more challenging side week in week out.

Transfer news and it’s been reported that Nigel Adkins wants £6m-rated Scott Dann to shore up the Saints defence. Southampton intends to revive their interest in Blackburn next month in the January sales. If they come in with an offer of 6m then I would take it!

Speculation also continues to circle around goalkeeper Paul Robinson. As Rovers try to tempt old boy Brad Friedel back to the club. Also a potential Rovers target in the January sales is Stoke’s midfield man Wilson Palacios.

One thing for certain Rovers do need to strengthen in midfield and defence in the transfer window, who with I’m not sure…I guess Venky’s will decide!
