Is Pep about to return to Barca?

When the news broke on Wednesday morning regarding the condition of Tito Vilanova, the football family were quick to praise and send their ‘get well soon’ messages to the Barcelona head coach. Reports in Spain suggest the 44-year-old has suffered a relapse of a tumour he had removed from his parotid gland in November 2011.

With the Catalan giants cancelling their media activities for the day, an irregularity for a club of their stature, rumours were rife regarding why the club had taken such measure. I for one want to wish Vilanova a speedy recovery, if they prove to be true, with some outlets suggesting the Barca head coach will be forced to step down from his role prematurely.

If that is the case, Barcelona are set to have a ready-made replacement lined up, with some speculating as to who it could be. Are fans about to witness the return of Pep Guardiola to the Camp Nou?

The Spaniard may be taking a sabbatical from football management, but a plea from the Blaugrana could well entice him to cut that short by six months and return to the La Liga pacesetters. The platform is already there and a transition back into the game would be smooth, much like it was when Vilanova succeeded Pep in the summer.

It’s times like these where rivalries between the two teams are shelved in favour of the greater good and it’s no surprise to have seen Real Madrid lend their support to the 44-year-old. Here’s hoping Vilanova makes a speedy recovery, if the reports are indeed true.
