A Gem Bought In January (Video)

Managers say there is no value in the January transfer window whatsoever and 2012 showed that, Papiss Demba Cisse’s £10 million move from Freiburg to Newcastle United was the biggest fee paid by a Premier League side but 2011 was a whole different story.

Manchester City have kept their recent transfer policy simple, somewhere along the lines of ‘we can buy who we want’, particularly under the reign on Roberto Mancini as the Italian bring success in exchange for the millions shelled out by the club’s Abu Dhabi owners.

In the January transfer window in 2011 Mancini made the acquisition of Edin Dzeko, paying German side Wolfsburg £27 million for the striker. Dzeko had also been linked with City’s city rivals, United, but The Blues beat off any competition from other clubs.

Bosnian international Dzeko had scored 85 goals in 142 games during his time in Germany and continued the goal scoring which had earned his big money to England. Dzeko instantly added another dimension to a Manchester City side challenging for the title, at 6 feet 3 inches he is a genuine target man with eyes for goal.

All of the goals in a blue shirt it will be the equaliser Dzeko scored in THAT game against Queens Park Rangers last season.
