Raheem Sterling’s big year (Video)

He may have only just officially become an adult, but big things are expected of Raheem Sterling.

In October, the Jamaican-born winger became the second-youngest ever player to score a competitive goal for Liverpool, whilst the following month saw Roy Hodgson hand him his senior England debut.  It may have only been a friendly, but this is someone who has made less than 30 appearances in his club career thus far.

After a few cameo appearances last season under Kenny Dalglish saw him play a total of 30 minutes of Premier League football, Brendan Rodgers has thrown the youngster in at the deep end.  Bar the club’s disastrous start to the season at the Hawthorns, Sterling has started each of Liverpool’s league games so far this campaign, usually completing 90 minutes and having been substituted only twice.  Rodgers has also utilised the winger’s electric pace in Europe, helping the Reds to top their group in the Europa League.

People may say he has been capped too early, or that players in general are rewarded by the national team before they are ready.  But, for an 18-year-old to attract that sort of attention in such a short space of time, he must be doing something right.
