Rodgers Wants Santo To Bring Goals (video)

Patrice Evra has scored more goals in 2012, 4, than Wigan Athletic’s Franco Di Santo but it seems Brendan Rodgers is looking at signing the striker rather than the left back.

Apart from Patrice Evra being famously unpopular with Liverpool fans for his part in the infamous Luis Suarez race row there surely is no other reason why Rodgers would go for a striker that cannot be considered a goal scorer above the Frenchman.

Of course the Liverpool boss wouldn’t chose a left back to play upfront over a striker but why is Rodgers after a striker with a career record of 12 goals in 111 games when he can have £35 million man Andy Carroll back at Anfield instead?

Liverpool are desperately short of goals in their squad, relying heavily upon Luis Suarez and captain Steven Gerrard, so Rodgers is hoping the signing of Argentinean Di Santo can ease the goal scoring burden that has fallen on Suarez and Gerrard.

By no names a big name in the world of football, Di Santo is a big man, Wikipedia says he’s 6 feet 4 inches tall, giving Rodgers side a more direct route when Plan A of keep ball isn’t working.

Rodgers can sign Di Santo in January for a low fee, Wigan paid Chelsea £2 million, or wait until the summer to capture the 23 year old on a free transfer.

Di Santo and Rodgers have worked together at Chelsea and the Liverpool boss is keen to work with players he feels he can trust on and off the pitch. Having played under Roberto Martinez at Wigna Di Santo is no stranger to the passing style Rodgers is implementing.
