When it emerged that Chelsea had all but signed Demba Ba from Newcastle United, fans of the Premiership outfit were understandably disappointed. Prior to the encounter with Everton on Wednesday night, the Senegal international had netted 13 goals for the Magpies; half of their league seasons total.
Leading the front-line, it was no surprise to see Ba net that amount. However, it was no coincidence that Papiss Cisse’s form suffered as a result, with Alan Pardew utilising the former Freiburg front-man on the wing in order to accommodate the 27-year-old.
With Ba now expected to sign for Chelsea, Cisse is expected to be starting for the Magpies in the middle once again. With it, fans of Newcastle will undoubtedly see the best of the 27-year-old now that his compatriot is supposedly set to move to Stamford Bridge.
Playing as the focal point in the front-line could well see the Senegal international replicate his form from the second half of last season and while the loss of Ba will be a blow to Newcastle, fans can be confident that Cisse will be given another chance to spearhead the Magpies attack once again, especially if they bring in another striker who can play on the wing.
