If reports in today’s newspapers are to believed it looks like Tom Huddlestone is no longer part of the plans at Tottenham Hotspur.
Hudlestone started his career at Derby County making his debut as a 16 year old for George Burley’s side on the opening day of the 2003/04 season but remarkably for such a youngster Huddlestone was voted Man of the Match in his maiden first team appearance.
In his first season as a professional Huddlestone made 43 league appearances, leading to his manager lauding his plaudits “He’s a terrific talent. As a young player, he is the best passer of a ball I have ever seen, and I’ve worked with some good young players.”
Another good season for Huddlestone in 2004/05 saw the midfielder move to Tottenham Hotspur in January 2005 for £2.5 million and loaned out to Wolverhampton Wanderers to gain some more first team experience.
Huddlestone was really coming to prominence in the 2007/08 season and made more than 40 appearances in all competitions, and his run in the first team continued all the way up to the 2009/10 season until injuries started to hamper progress.
Known for being ‘a big unit’ and having a superb range of passing as well as a powerful strike, it is make or break time for a man that has been compared to Glenn Hoddle and Franz Beckenbauer.
So far this season Huddlestone has made just a single appearance for Andre Villas-Boas’ side, but at £3 million and still only 26 years old there is still potential to be filled.
