It seems that Roberto Mancini has finally realised what everybody else already knew, not that Mario Balotelli is an absolute fruit loop but Jack Rodwell tends to have a few problems with injuries every now and then.
Rodwell moved to Manchester City in August but has made just 6 appearances so far this season, 5 in the league and 1 in the Champions League, due to a hamstring initially picked up on duty with the England under-21’s before aggravating the problem again during his recovery.
The treatment room is no strange place to the midfielder after spending plenty of time sidelined while at former side Everton. In 5 seasons in the first team at Goodison Park the 21 year old made only 85 league appearances, the 2009/10 the most successful during which Rodwell made 26 league appearances.
Since the £12 million move to champions Manchester City at the start of the season Rodwell’s luck with injury has not improved but City boss Mancini hopes things will get better, “We hope we can improve this situation for him,” Mancini said. “He is young and he has quality – he has everything to be a good midfielder.
“I worry because when we bought him we thought he was a good player and then he had these problems with hamstrings.
“He is getting better and we hope we can recover him in two or three weeks. He needs to start working with the group and he didn’t do this until Thursday.”
