There was a time when Nani was labelled as the next Cristiano Ronaldo, and whilst one was named runner up in the award for the best player in the world this week, the other appears to have hastily slipped from the face of the footballing world.
Much has been said about Nani’s future at Old Trafford recently because of his form hitting almighty lows, and with Antonio Valencia and Ashley Young occupying either wing, could the signing of Crystal Palace’s Wilfried Zaha be the final nail in the coffin and seal the Portugal international’s future?
There is no doubt about the 26-year-old’s talent, when Nani is on top of his game you know about it. He is renowned for the way he can ping a ball into the net from distance and his eye-watering pace down the flanks, but when he does not feel like turning up you can forgive the United fans for being just a little bit frustrated.
The way he mopes around if things aren’t going his way is incredibly childish for someone getting paid such obscene amounts of money. It looks to be case closed now as Manchester United are reportedly the last team in the hunt for Zaha, a tricky winger 6 years Nani’s junior, for a fee in the region of £12m.
Zaha has propelled himself to the top of the wanted-list over the last year or so. His ability to destroy defences has been witnessed week-in-week-out in the Championship for the Eagles and the player himself is ready to take the jump up to the Premier League.
If Nani’s future looked bleak before, it now looks to be all but dead.
