Why are no Premier League clubs making much of an effort to sign Sneijder?

When Wesley Sneijder was at his pinnacle back in 2010 there were many who were gob-smacked when he was not awarded the FIFA Ballon d’Or award, but now it seems that a move to Galatasary is his only option despite the world and its dog knowing that he is available – but why?

Whispers surrounding the Inter outcast suggest that a number of Premier League sides have interest in securing the Netherlands international’s signature but his supposed wage demands are not something that they can afford, however he has now revealed that the destination of his transfer will have nothing to do with the financial side of things.

There is no questioning Sneijder’s unbelievable talent and he is undoubtedly still one of the top playmakers in Europe, but his extravagant demands in Italy have seen him being firmly pushed towards the San Siro exit. You would think that the image of the 28-year-old’s creativity shattering the strongest of defences in the English topflight would cause a fierce onslaught of clubs trying to secure his services, but it appears that interest is damp.

If you are Brendan Rodgers and you need an experienced head at the heartbeat of your Liverpool squad to work alongside Steven Gerrard, then surely Sneijder is your man. With almost 400 appearances across the top of European football, Ajax, Real Madrid and Inter Milan, there are not many who can boast the understanding of what it takes to succeed at the highest level. He is also nearing the all elusive 100 cap mark for his national side Holland, scoring 24 goals along the way.

Okay, if not Liverpool then how about Manchester United? Their midfield is crying out for a driving force to squeeze the best out of their sumptuous attacking options and has been a target in the past. He would also benefit the likes of Tom Cleverley and provide some much needed advice and guidance to drag him up to the standards that he has showcased across his career.

It really is a mystery to why he has not stirred up a reaction bigger than he has, perhaps we do not know the circumstances behind the scenes, but surely signing Wesley Sneijder on the cheap is too good of an opportunity to turn down?
