Loic Remy signed for Queens Park Rangers this week, not because of big wages, or the chance to play in the Premier League but because QPR owner Tony Fernandes is just a good bloke.
Fernandes pipped fellow Premier League strugglers Newcastle United to the signing of Frenchman Remy earlier in the week and QPR’s new striker has revealed it was playing FIFA 13 with the club’s owner that persuaded him to sign with the Premier League’s bottom club, “It showed to me what a good person Tony is. “He showed his human side to me as an owner of the club.”
It wasn’t just Tony Fernandes that played a part in the £10 million capture of the striker from Ligue 1 side Marseille. Rangers manager Harry Redknapp, who tracked Remy while manager of Tottenham Hotspur, also had a hand in the deal, “Harry Redknapp also played a big part in me coming here,” he added. “I spoke to him and Tony Fernandes at length and they made it clear they wanted me here.”
Remy finished by saying “They gave me the right motivation to join QPR.”, and he’s right £80,000 a week, a release clause if the club is relegated and a bonus if the club survive in the Premier League is all a player needs to be convinced to join a club, it seems the right move however as the Frenchman scored on his debut in this weekend’s 1-1 draw with West Ham United.
And, for those of you wondering Remy, playing as Bayern Munich, beat Tony Fernandes’ Argentina.
