Arsene Wenger was left disappointed when a list off the fines he imposes on players was leaked in the press but rather than making players pay for training ground misdemeanours to be paid to German giant Per Mertesacker the Arsenal boss should be making his wealthy stars cough up for mistakes in matches.
The fines posted in Arsenal’s Colney training complex are as follows:
OFFENCE |
FINE |
Non attendance of unused players at Home matches without permission of manager |
£1000 |
Late for training |
< 15 mins £250, > 15 mins £500 |
Late for treatment/massage |
< 15 mins £250, > 15 mins £500 |
Late for travel |
£500 |
Late for match day meetings / meals |
£250 |
Wrong kit on match days |
£100 |
Inappropriate clothing outside of the dressing room |
£100 |
Outdoor shoes in the dressing room |
£100 |
Newspapers, laptops and phones in the medical room |
£100 |
Newspapers in dressing room |
£100 |
Non production of urine sample for two consecutive weeks |
£200 |
Phone calls in the building (texting allowed) |
£500 |
No participating in commercial activities (including Club Day) |
£500 |
I’ve got a few ideas for the rules Wenger should implement on the pitch to make sure his players take more responsibility on the pitch:
OFFENCE |
FINE |
Concede in the first 15 minutes |
£250 |
Concede in the last 15 minutes |
£500 |
Red Card |
£500 |
Yellow Card |
£250 |
Rolling around on the floor |
£100 |
Hands on hips (the double tea pot) |
£100 |
Loss of possession leading to opposition goal |
£500 |
It was clear Arsenal lacked discipline in the first half in the 2-1 defeat to Chelsea on Sunday but hitting the players in the pocket may toughen them up when it comes to the big games that are becoming more and more important to a side struggling to make the top 4 this season.
