As far as prodigious goalkeepers go, Thibaut Courtois is up there with the the best. The young Belgian, currently on loan with Atletico Madrid, signed for Chelsea back in 2011 from Racing Genk and has gone on to become one of the hottest prospects in European football, with his age of just 20-years-old leaving those confident that the Blues have their number one spot wrapped up for the foreseeable future.
So, you can imagine the surprise of many when reports suggested that the west London side were supposedly keeping tabs on Birmingham City number one Jack Butland. The England international is believed to be keen on departing St. Andrew’s following a poor turn of form for the Blues, with interest high in the youngster.
But why would Chelsea need Butland? He said he would only leave Birmingham if he was guaranteed first team football, something he wouldn’t attain at Stamford Bridge, what with Petr Cech enjoying one of his finer seasons at the club.
With Courtois continuously excelling at Atletico, Chelsea’s interest in Butland is surely nothing more than fabricated, nonsensical garbage. The Belgian is one of the finest shot-stoppers on the continent at present and with his age, is only going to get better.
With Butland also demanding first team football and his next club, there is absolutely no chance he’ll dislodge Cech in between the sticks at Stamford Bridge.
