The Swansea striker has told Michael Laudrup that he finally wants out of Wales seeking personal reasons for why he wants to depart.
There had been an almighty scrap from several mid-table Premier League clubs to try and lure the centre forward to the club before his admission of wanting out.
He had not been getting as much game time as he would have liked and wanted to be the main man guaranteed 90 minutes in the English top tier once again.
Sunderland had seemingly risen to the top of the pile. It would tick a few boxes as they have state of the art facilities, a passionate crowd and ambition for a top 10 finish.
In some people’s eyes a move to Sunderland would be a step up in class from Swansea and from a purely footballing perspective this all seems to make sense.
There is a catch. The player has openly stated in the past his allegiance to Newcastle United and his love of Tyneside and this means he would instantly be on the back foot with supporters.
In the same way you had to question Steve Bruce when he took over the helm at the Stadium of Light, the passion in the North East is hard to ignore and if your heart is not fully in it, you will be found out.
Danny Graham may be very well up for the challenge but for the striker looking to ensure Premier League football for the next years to come, it would be advisable to avoid the potential career ruining move to Sunderland if he were to fall out of favour.
