Since the defeat to Everton back in December, it’s fair to say the Tottenham Hotspur defensive line have solidified considerably. Following the loss to the Toffees, Andre Villas-Boas’ side have gone on a 12 game unbeaten run – the best in their Premier League history – conceding just eight goals in the process.
Much of this has been down to the reinstatement of Michael Dawson to the starting XI and Hugo Lloris firmly establishing himself as Spurs’ number one, but the north London club are keen on strengthening further still, regardless of their astute defensive displays in recent months.
As such, reports are now suggesting that young Feyenoord defender Bruno Martins Indi is at the head of Villas-Boas’ wishlist. The 21-year-old has emerged as a key figure in De Stadionclub’s defence, with the Dutch club currently sitting third in the Eredivisie, three points off PSV Eindhoven in first.
Despite his age, Indi has already gone on to win seven caps for the national team, netting twice. His versatility will also be of interest to Villas-Boas, with the player himself capable of operating at either centre-back or left-back, much like current fan favourite Jan Vertonghen.
With Spurs currently third in the Premier League and hoping to secure a top four finish and a place in the Champions League next season, the need to strengthen, especially with William Gallas set to depart, is a necessity and Indi could be the player to help propel Spurs to the next level.
