AVB for Manager of the Year award?
How about those high flying Hotspurs of Tottenham?
Having just beaten Arsenal they now look a very good bet to qualify for the Champions League and things are going pretty well in Europe, too.
Inter Milan visit White Hart Lane tonight in the first leg of their Europa League quarter final and with the way Spurs are playing right now, it would take a brave man to bet against them not getting a positive result against the Italian giants.
Andre Villas Boas certainly has the Spurs team purring like a pussycat and, Manchester Untied aside, they are the form team in the Premier League right now. They may even catch up with Man City in second place if things keep going like this.
Having Gareth Bale in the form of his life certainly helps things but a lot of credit has to go to their manager, the much maligned AVB.
After a disastrous season at Chelsea last year and a shaky start with Spurs this season, Villas Boas now has his team playing brilliant football team and if they are able to remain in the top four until season’s end and make a run in the Europa League then there can be no other choice for Manager of the Year other than the young Portuguese.
His decision to start playing Bale in a more central position was a masterstroke and it has paid dividends. AVB has also found a way to overcome Emmanuel Adebayor’s lack of interest in playing football and still been able to maintain their superb form.
This week, Defoe claimed that this Tottenham squad was the best he has seen during his time in north London and Spurs supporters should thank Villas Boas for being able to get the very best out of his squad and putting them in a position to not only qualify for the Champions League but also, and more significantly of course, finish above Arsenal for the first time since 1995.
