Does Moyes need silverware before he can move on?

There has been intense discussion as to what direction David Moyes will take when his contract end at Everton in the summer.

A lot of clubs have been mentioned as potential suitors but is the lack of silverware the one blot that remains upon his CV?

On Saturday, the painful defeat inflicted upon his side by Roberto Martinez’s Wigan in the space of four minutes ruined his trophy quest once again.

In some quarters they have hailed it as a blessing in disguise for Everton’s top four push, but will Champions League qualification make people sit up and take notice.

Yes it would but should they achieve it could the Toffees afford to invest in their squad ready to deal with such an enormous challenge.

Would it stop Fellaini and Baines being tempted by moves elsewhere? You still suspect the answer is no.

Moyes will be aware that Everton’s foundations could easily be torn from underneath him so is a Champions League campaign enough to call it a day.

No, if he is truly going to make the step up to the next level, all future employers will call upon his capability to win cups on a regular basis. If he can’t he will quickly be out the door.

David Moyes may be wise to think about this before he rushes to aspire to greater things next summer.
