Now Brian McDermott has been quickly booted out of the door following Reading’s lacklustre run of form, all eyes are upon Anton Zingarevich as to who his successor will be.
The Royals owner has taken a bold step in removing a man who knew the football club back to front at such a critical stage in the Premier League season.
There is supposedly a plan to bring in a new man as soon as possible. Is it believable that he is looking at Di Canio? And can he succeed?
It is definitely something that is imaginable that Di Canio could take over the helm, as his charisma and capability is suited to the Premier League.
Whether he is the right man right now is another issue. He may be able to galvanise the players for one or two games but Reading simply do not have the squad for survival.
If he is appointed we will find out all about Di Canio’s mettle and his stomach for the fight, because the Championship is a League which forgives nobody if his side were to step down into it.
It is also one thing to manage to motivate players at League one level with Swindon Town but the Premier League is a whole different beast.
