Big spending Manchester City are surprisingly still on the look out for good ol’ bargain.
Currently on the Manchester club’s radar is 18-year-old Portsmouth defender Daniel Butler.
The youngster, originally from the Isle of Wight, has been a stand out performer for League one side this season and it was such performances that prompted Manchester City to take a peak.
Butler started the season on-loan at non league side Havant and Waterlooville – This is where he started to impress. His performances for the Hawks grabbed the eye of Portsmouth boss Guy Whittingham who then recalled Butler and installed him in the left-back position early January.
Since he made his Portsmouth debut, Butler has made twelve appearances for the Blues, mostly occupying the left-back position.
For his age, Butler is a surprisingly intelligent footballer who reads the game like an experienced player.
At 5ft 9″ he is certainly not the tallest defender in League One, however the sheer strength in the boys legs make him a certain threat in the air.
It’s not a shock that a big club, such as Manchester City, have come in for such a talent.
Butler certainly has the potential to be huge and with Portsmouth’s current financial situation, City may not have to spend a ridiculous amount to land their target.
