While Spain often heavily rely upon the exploits of their diminutive stars to pull victory out of the bag, there are times when the physical presence of a burly frontman comes in vital. More often than not, the national team call upon the capabilities of Sevilla striker Alvaro Negredo to provide this, as evidenced during the 1-1 draw with Finland on Friday.
Negredo may not have been utilised from the word go, but by taking the place of David Villa midway through the second showcased the trust Vicente Del Bosque has in the 27-year-old. It comes as no shock considering his exploits for the La Liga side this season, having netted 20 goals in 30 games in all competitions.
He may not have the best goalscoring record on the international stage, but his height and power means he is a vital to both Sevilla and Spain, be it from the off or coming on as a substitute. Therefore, interest from England comes as no real surprise.
Negredo has the attributes to succeed in the Premier League, with Everton supposedly showing a strong interest in the former Almeria frontman. The Toffees were believed to have come close to snaring the Spaniard in January, only to fail to convince him to move to Goodison Park on the last day of the transfer day.
However, with his exploits in Spain this season, chances are interest will have improved considerably on these shores, with Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal believed to have taken a shining to Negredo in the past.
