I regard it as a great shame that I wasn’t alive and living in Naples during Diego Maradona’s mid to late 80s heyday at Napoli.
At Napoli Maradona reached his peak as a footballer and brought the club its most successful years. He was a legend and I bet Napoli fans couldn’t believe their luck that they got to see the best footballer in the world play for their team week in and week out.
And what a character to go with that splendid ability. Maradona played with his heart on his sleeve and Naples suited the man perfectly. How good it must have been to be Maradona during his seven years in Naples; playing his best football, winning two Scudettos (amongst other glories) and friendly with the Camorra.
Here is a fantastic clip of Maradona doing his pre match warm up routine and displays the playful nature of the man who many consider to be the best footballer of all time. Not only are there some rather good tekkers to be observed but Maradona also shows some of the charm and charisma that endeared to fans the world over.
Even after the Hand of God goal the English still find a place in their hears of ol’ Diego such is his appeal
