Up the Northern league’s we go

It looks like being three years and three league titles for Chester FC as they sit 16 points clear of Guiseley on top of the Conference North, and with only a single defeat. After the demise of Chester City it was time for a supporters group known as ‘City Fans United’ to step in.

On 6thFebruary 2010, Ebsfleet came away with 2-1 win away at City in front of just 460 spectators. This proved to be the last game played under their existing form. With over £26,000 in unpaid taxes owed to HMRC there was no way out for the Cheshire side. They were officially put out of business on Wednesday 10th March 2010 and plans to develop a phoenix club were immediately drawn up.

Being a general football fan it’s never nice to see any team go into administration or proceed to be liquidated, especially one of the smaller clubs, but they’re learning from previous mistakes which in the future should put them well ahead of the game. Let’s just hope that local supporter run club’s become more common again in the near future!

Now with an average home attendance of 2,500 at Bumpers Lane and an ever present large vocal away following, the Cestrian’s are relishing the distinct prospect of seeing their team in the football league once again. Having scored 97 times so far this campaign, they certainly know how to bag a goal that’s for sure!

Chester haven’t gone without their fair share of trouble on the terraces in the past couple of years against other well supported sides such as Chorley, Halifax and FC United of Manchester, but that is mearly a small dent in what has been an amazing 3 years for the club.

It took AFC Wimbledon a total of 9 years to return to the 92, yet Chester stand a chance of cutting that achievement significantly. In 2 years from now, could it could all become reality?

They probably aren’t your team… but keep an eye out for Chester FC.

A time will come when one of the elite sides run out of money and face administration. My bet is them coming out with an AFC in front of their name and directions to such destinations as Matlock, Corby or Histon on the sat nav. I’ll chip in for the petrol.
