West Brom striker Shane Long looks set to snub a move to the Bundesliga and sign a new contract at The Hawthorns.
The Republic of Ireland international has attracted interest from a number of European clubs including two German sides, Schalke and Hoffenheim.
Long’s goal in Albion’s 3-0 victory over Southampton at St Mary’s on Saturday was his first since the end of January, although the former Reading man has scored 11 times this season in an injury-hit campain.
The 26-year-old, who was signed from the Royals for £6.5million in August 2011, is keen to die up a deal and the Baggies are reportedly happy to enter into negotiations about new terms.
Long has endured a mixed second season with West Brom as a number of recurring injuries have limited his number of starts since Christmas. The form of on-loan Romelu Lukaku has also made it difficult for him to retain a starting berth.
But with Lukaku likely to be challenging for a place at Chelsea next season and the inevitable departure of wantaway striker Peter Odemwingie, Long will be key to the Baggies’ forward line next season.
Meanwhile, Albion’s player of the season Gareth McAuley, 33, is also in talks about an extension to his current deal which is set to expire in 15 months.
However, he is stalling to put pen to paper as the veteran defender is understood to be unhappy with the terms offered so far.
