In a remarkable turnaround at St James’ Park, Alan Pardew is on the verge of being booted from the club as they continue their struggle to retain their Premier League status.
Pardew signed an eight-year contract with Newcastle in September last year as his men sat comfortably in 10th place, ready to replicate their solid form the season prior when they finished fifth in the league table. However, Toon now find themselves directly above the dreaded drop-zone and have played a game more than Wigan, who are in 18th place.
The Geordie club are in desperate need of some confidence in order to steer themselves away from danger, but it is difficult to see where that will come from after they were battered 6-0 by Liverpool last weekend in front of their own fans.
Some are enjoying the club’s struggles however. The fact that Pardew’s reaction to his squad’s dismal showings was to g`o out and splash £31m on new players, five of whom were of French nationality, and they still can’t maintain any sort of momentum.
It is painful to watch the former Southampton boss falling to pieces in front of your eyes, with his interviews and excuses becoming more and more predictable. He even grew a beard to try and take attention away from the results!
With an increase of £30m in television revenue for next season’s Premier League clubs, the time to lose your topflight status has never been more costly.
Taxi for Mr Pardeux.
