Manchester United closing in on South American star (video)

Yes, another transfer rumour regarding the champions *sigh*. Despite Manchester United winning the Premier League trophy with ease this season, Sir Alex Ferguson has promised the fans at least one big name signing when the summer transfer window opens. Whether this is an audacious move to bring Cristiano Ronaldo back to the club or perhaps try and tempt Gareth Bale north of the capital is yet to be seen. However, another name on Fergie’s list is Columbia U20 international Juan Fernando Quintero.

The 20-year-old has spent the season on loan to Serie A side Pescara this season from his parent club Atletico Nacional and has been scouted vigorously by the United scouting team. They got the opportunity to watch him in the South America U20 Championships in which he led his country to victory and scored five goals himself.

Not bad, eh?

Quintero is a playmaker, which is the only real component the Red Devils are missing from their squad, and with Paul Scholes finally eroding into retirement with his grey-haired friend Ryan Giggs, Fergie is desperate to bolster the middle of his team.

Nani and Anderson have also been exposed to be stealing a living in professional football and will be shipped out, leaving just Tom Cleverley and Michael Carrick as the United midfield. Hardly a mouthwatering prospect, is it?
