La Liga outfit preparing £40m deal for Liverpool star with government backing (video)

Liverpool bosses are about to be tested as La Liga side Atletico Madrid are lining up a summer move for body-biting Luis Suarez, with the backing of the Azerbaijan government. No, really.

The deal may seem a weird one, but with Atleti resigned to losing Radamel Falcao when the season comes to a close and the state government in Baku are after a huge sponsorship deal, the move looks to be a good one for all involved.

All apart from Liverpool, that is.

The little forward has carried the Reds on his shoulders for almost the entire season while Brendan Rodgers puts his players through a transitional period, but with his 10 match ban for biting the arm of Chelsea defender Branisav Ivanovic they have done just fine without him.

Liverpool currently sit in seventh place with no hope of European football next year, so a move to the Vicente Calderon would look a tempting one for the Uruguayan bad-boy.

Opponents in the Premier League will be sighing with relief and will feel comfortable in wearing short sleeve shirts again should the move happen.

You have to feel sorry for Brendan Rodgers. He has been lumbered with a squad full of average players bar Suarez, and even he is about as likeable as pinch on the bingo wing.
