With David Moyes now appointed Manchester United manager on a long term contract, attention now turns to who the Scot will sign to sure up his news side in order to retain the Premier League title. Much has been said about the interest in Leighton Baines and Marouane Fellanini, but here are three reasons why a move for Chelsea’s Frank Lampard could be a brilliant piece of business.
1) Goals
We all know how potent Lampard is in front of goal. He recently climbed to the top of Chelsea’s highest ever scorer tally with a brace against Aston Villa, putting him on 203 goals for the Blues. There have been few to challenge the midfielder’s instinct and accuracy in front of goal in Premier League history and it seems absurd that they are willing to let that go at the end of the season.
2) Experience
Lampard is a winner, it is as simple as that. He was won almost everything in football at club level and has the desire and determination to keep adding to his trophy collection until he hangs up his boots. He may be 34 and heading towards the end of his playing days, but he still has plenty in his tank and would be a massive, massive signing in regards to helping the younger players in the United midfielder alongside Paul Scholes and Ryan Giggs.
3) Free
If someone said that a Premier League side aiming for a title challenge next season were ready to let their 13-goal midfielder leave on a free transfer at the end of the campaign then you’d have laughed in their face. But this is exactly what is happening at the Bridge. Manchester United have the funds to sign big money players in the summer, but a short term deal for the England international could prove to be a very shrewd piece of business.
