Perhaps one of the most infuriating strikers to ever play the game, due to his frequent ability to be caught offside on a regular basis, but also one of the best goal poachers that football has ever seen. This is how many people would sum up the career of ex-Juventus, Milan and Italy striker Filippo Inzaghi. He formed a deadly partnership with Alessandro Del Piero during the late 90’s and new millennium and was loved by fans of Juventus whilst despised by opposition supporters.
The forward holds numerous records from a very successful career, including the most hat-tricks scored in Serie A as well as being the fifth highest scorer of all time in this league with 313 goals. He is also second to Raul in terms of European club goals, with 70 to his name. Whilst many fans will remember him from his time at Juventus, it is perhaps surprising that he spent only four seasons there before leaving to spend eleven years with AC Milan. This could be because Italian football was at its peak of popularity at this time and also because Juve were world renowned and doing well in the Champions League, with the likes of Zidane and others for company.
However and whatever you think of this prolific striker there is no doubt that he had an eye for goal and given half a chance he would put the ball in the back of the net. If only we hadn’t been made to suffer by seeing the linesman’s flag go up so often as a consequence!
