The search for a Paul Scholes replacement continues as David Moyes finally moves in as Manchester United boss this week, and the Express are reporting that Juventus midfielder Claudio Marchisio is the man to fill the strawberry-blonde boots. I don’t think there will ever be another playmaker to have the same sort of impact as the Ginger Ninja, although I can’t imagine the 27-year-old will expect to.

As long as he performs better than Anderson then the entire capacity of Old Trafford will be releasing a sigh of relief.

The Juve man is just that; a Juve man. He has played for the Turin club for his entire career but may accept a switch as Italy’s Old Lady look towards next season’s retention of the Scudetto with a fresh squad.

Should the move come off then United fans should be very excited. In his 29 league games this season Marchisio has scored six goals, created 34 chances and finished with a 50%  shot accuracy. The Italy international has stapled the Juventus midfield together for over 200 games now and has impressed us all with his dogged work-rate and monumental determination to drive his side on.

He has an overall pass success of 84%, which isn’t great compared to others, but he has been known to try to play the killer ball more often than not.

I suspect David Moyes is frantically finding a fine Italian wine to try and tempt him over to Manchester.
