Andy Carroll’s Liverpool future over before it has began

It is easy to forget that Andy Carroll is actually a Liverpool player and is not already a West Ham player given how seamlessly he has fitted into the Hammers fold this term compared to looking like the white elephant that he did at Anfield. With that in mind there is no surprise to hear the Metro reporting that Carroll is West Ham’s main target for the summer.

It seems that whatever happens over summer his association with the Reds will come to an acrimonious end with Brendan Rodgers giving next to no indication that the big man is part of his plans, despite several impressive displays in recent months. Without question his robust style does not exactly suit the vision Rodgers has for Liverpool given his preference for slick slick passing football. That said Carroll would represent one of the best plan B’s going and given they are unlikely to recoup anywhere near the £35 million they thoughtlessly splashed on the player it is certainly a risky decision.

That said whilst he could represent a strong alternative option there is a belief with Carroll that to get him performing anywhere need his peak he needs plenty of love and looking after, something which being second choice at Liverpool he just would not get. At West Ham things have been the opposite with the striker the focal point of their play in recent weeks and in Sam Allardyce he has a manager who clearly believes in him and whose style could not be anymore perfect for him. Further to that not only does he have a father figure at Upton Park he also in Kevin Nolan that older brother figure who can keep him on the straight and narrow.
