Chelsea man wants one more year in Spain (video)

Thibuat Courtois signed for Chelsea in 2011 from Racing Genk however he is still yet to make an appearance for the club, instead he has spent the last two seasons on loan to La liga side Atletico Madrid. His spell in Spain has been very impressive and has been valuable for all parties involved as the 21-year-old keeper hones his skills in preparation for returning to challenge Petr Cech for the number one shirt at Chelsea. It was reported today in the Metro that he wants to stay in Spain for one more year before he feels he is ready for the Premier League.

The Belgian keeper has proved himself already as a very good goalkeeper and the fact he is still so young is a huge bonus as there is still a lot of room for growth. One of his best assets are his fantastic reflexes he seems to be able to know where the ball is going before any striker has even made contact with the ball which allows him to spring either left or right to make the save.

Atletico needed a new goalkeeper following the departure of David De Gea to Manchester United and the on-loan Chelsea man has stepped into those shoes really well. It is surely only a matter of time until Courtois becomes one of the best goalkeepers in the world and one more season with the Spanish side would surely do no harm rather only continue his development.

Chelsea fans may be slightly disappointed that they may have to wait another year until they season the Belgian heir to the Number one jersey in a Chelsea shirt but most will feel it is a win-win situation for everyone involved.

Here’s Courtois doing what he does best.
