Bayern Munich truly a team of destiny

As expected, Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund put on a show on Saturday evening at Wembley as the two fine clubs battled it out for European supremacy.

It was a superb game and for all the talk of Arjen Robben’s match winning performance it was Manuel Neuer’s outstanding first half that quelled Dortmund’s early promise. The German number one had to make five brilliant saves as Bayern limped into the game.

Those saves would prove to be key as Bayern’s overall stamina and fitness surpassed their opponents and Robben’s late strike epitomised this special team’s determination and perseverance.

Having dominated the Bundesliga and humbled impressive opposition en route to the Champions League final, Bayern are on the brink of a sensational treble.

All that is standing in their way is VFB Stuggart in the DFB Cup Final (German equivalent of the FA Cup) on Saturday. It would take a brave man to bet against Jupp Heynckes squad faltering at the final hurdle, especially considering that it is their outgoing manager’s final game.

It is all set up perfectly for Bayern; imperious in the league, unbeatable in Europe’s premier competition after losing the ‘Home’ final last year and now ready to complete a feat that many clubs do not even come close to.

This Munich squad a truly a team of destiny and now, as they approach the end of a long and triumphant season it is clear that there is no one who can stand in their way.

Incoming manager Pep Guardiola as a real challenge on his hands in finding ways to improve on what Heynckes and this team has achieved this year.
