Chelsea target £30m defender, but does it mean David Luiz will be leaving?

Jose Mourinho has named the man he wants to make his first signing at Stamford Bridge, if you believe what the Sun are reporting, but has ruled out paying the £30m that Porto want for their defender. Eliaquim Mangala is the man we speak of, and he could be seen as a replacement for David Luiz who is attracting interest from Barcelona.

Mangala is a France U21 centre-back who has worked his way through the ranks at Standard Liege before completing a move to Porto in 2011 in a €6.5m deal. He has impressed spectators with his domineering performances and his knack of scoring and has a huge clause in his contract in order to scare away potential buyers.

Unfortunately for them money talks in football, and few can match the amount of dosh that Chelsea have. Multi-trazillionaire Roman Abramovich laughs in the face of transfer fees, he even paid £50m for Fernando Torres just for a laugh. He has proved time and time again that he gets who he wants and you can’t help but feel it will be the same this time round.

Mangala, who holds a Belgian passport, has also hinted that a deal may be on. He said: “It’s flattering because Chelsea are a great club and Mourinho is a great coach. I intended to stay in Porto but you never know what will happen in football, especially when big clubs are involved.”

We ALL know what that means…
