Paul Scholes – He Scored Goals – Top 5 (Video)

With Premier League legend Paul Scholes retiring from football (for good this time), let’s countdown the top five goals in his career.

5. Middlesbrough (2000)

In a Premier League classic which ended 4-3, Scholes managed to grab all the headlines with a shot that was to become his trademark. He received a sideways pass from Gary Neville, 30yards out and rifled it straight into the top right and corner with almost no backlift.

4. Barcelona (2008)

Along with his goal in the 1999 Champions League quarter-final at the San Siro, this goal against Barcelona in 2008 was his most important for Manchester United. The tie was 0-0 14 minutes into the second leg as Scholes received a poor Barcelona clearance, just outside the area. He took a touch and hit it on the half volley straight into the top corner to send United into the final.

3. Panathinaikos (2000)

There is one word to describe this goal against Panathinaikos in 2001. Sublime. Scholes ended a United move that spanned over 30 passes with a delicate chip over the keeper from the edge of the area. A special goal.

2. Aston Villa (2006)

An early Christmas present for United fans in 2006 when a Ryan Giggs corner was headed out to Scholes on the edge of the box. He hit it first time on the volley and it cannoned in off the crossbar from fully 35 yards out. To cliché, No keeper in the world would have saved it!

1. Bradford (2000)

Scholes sealed the title for United by late March with this classic strike against Bradford. He hit a David Beckham corner first time on the volley straight into the bottom corner before anyone had moved. Remarkable.
