Jose Mourinho names two targets as first Chelsea signings – statistics

It has been a day of celebration for Chelsea fans. Jose Mourinho has been named as the new Blues boss and with it has hinted at two men that he wants to follow him into the club. Number one is Manchester City target-man Edin Dzeko, and the other is Fioerentina striker Stevan Jovetic, the forward that Arsenal have supposedly been chasing for the last few months.

Could it be Jose 1-0 Wenger already?

The 50-year-old gaffer wants to revamp the forward berths as Fernando Torres and Demba Ba don’t float his boat are is likely to sign at least two frontmen, even if it is not the aforementioned.

Dzeko has had a relatively successful campaign despite the lack of full games played, 14 goals scored in 32 appearances (nine full games) and finished the campaign with a shot accuracy of 53%. He won 46% of his headed duels, which is surprisingly low and created a total of 32 chances.

Jovetic on the other hand has 13 goals in 31 games and a shot percentage of 51%. He has created 55 chances for his colleagues and an even lower 36% heading success. The 23-year-old is the more versatile of the two and is comfortable being deployed in a wider role, that combined with his age is likely to drive the transfer fee up.

So, in the blue corner we have a proven Premier League goalscorer on a cut-price deal. In the purple corner we have a young, promising forward who is one of the most sought after players in Europe right now. Then in the dog house we have Fernando Torres, although it is probably best we don’t talk about him.
