3 defenders Chelsea should consider to replace John Terry – statistics and videos

Chelsea are sure to go through some sort of transition this summer as Jose Mourinho goes about putting his stamp on the squad. One man whose career at the club will be decided in the next few weeks is the Blues’ captain, leader and legend John Terry, with French clubs such as Monaco apparently looking at signing him to their roster. Here are three players who could replace the 32-year-old, or try to at least.

Sean Morrison – Reading

Games played: 16

Goals: 2

Duel Success: 66%

Tackle Success: 78%

Average Defensive Actions Per Game: 10

The young Reading centre-back put in a solid debut season in the Premier League, and although the Royals failed to retain their topflight status for next term the 22-year-old is expected to bounce straight back up this summer. His towering presence makes it near impossible to get past him both aerially and on the ground, and his knack at being in the right place at the right time has been shown on numerous occasions.

Andrea Ranocchia – Inter

Games played: 32

Goals: 2

Duel Success: 63%

Tackle Success: 65%

Average Defensive Actions Per Game: 11

Inter had a miserable season and it was largely down to their defence. However, the 25-year-old stood out individually as a result of his composure on the ball and willingness to get forward and it is said that should an offer come in for the Italian then the temptation of the Champions League will be too much to turn down.

Joel Matip – Schalke

Games played: 32

Goals: 3

Duel Success: 69%

Tackle Success: 75%

Average Defensive Actions Per Game: 9

Matip is one of the most impressive youngsters in European football right now and another impeccable season has only strengthened that. He has a headed duel success of 76% which surpasses that of Terry’s despite it being one of his strongest assets.
