Arsenal considering £15m for forward, but where will he fit in? – Statistics

There are rumours aplenty regarding Arsenal as Arsene Wenger attempts to sculpt a squad ready to challenge for the Premier League title, and the latest name on the list is Lille forward Dimitri Payet. The Metro are reporting that the Gunners are ready to go to blows with Newcastle and Marseille for the 26-year-old in a deal worth around £15m, but where will he fit in?

Payet is traditionally a left winger but can play anywhere behind the striker, which instantly puts him up against the likes of Lukas Podolski and Gervinho if the two remain at the club. Arsenal also have Theo Walcott and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain who can operate the wings which leaves little room for Payet, although the media are reporting he will be a replacement for Ivorian forward Gervinho.

The France international played a part in every game of Lille’s Ligue 1 campaign last year and scored 12 goals, made 77 key passes and made 13 assists, so the £15m touted may seem like a bargain. His shot accuracy stood at 52% while his take-on success was nothing special at 44%.

As whispers spread about all these players that Arsenal are ‘swooping’ for you have to wonder whether the documented £70m summer budget will be enough.
