Higuain can fill the void van Persie left behind (video)

When Arsenal let Robin Van Persie leave for rivals Manchester United fans berated Wenger and the board for allowing their star striker to leave for rivals and not finding someone to replace his goals. Although Giroud, Walcott and Podolski all contributed goals they just couldn’t offer what van Persie achieved. They may be about to find a solution though as they look to complete a club record £22 million signing of Real Madrid striker Gonzalo Higuain.

Higuain has scored 122 goals in 266 games for Real Madrid but after seven years at the club he decided to leave the Spanish capital in search of a new challenge. The challenge of filling the void that van Persie left behind seems to be the one that Higuain is ready to take on and I feel that it is one he could live up to.

Higuain is very close to full package as far as strikers go he is big and strong and he has a lot of pace in behind and he can also finish spectacularly well. He has not always been the most talked about player at Real Madrid but that’s often been down to players around him rather than him not performing. However at Arsenal he would have the chance to really shine as Arsenal’s leading man something that I think he would thrive on.

Arsenal haves always been very shrewd with their money finding players for very little money and nurturing them into stars resulting in huge profits, this has been a very frustrating process for fans though as they haven’t been challenging. Their patience could be rewarded this summer though as Wenger has supposedly been given huge backing to go out into the transfer market and spend big money.

The marquee signing of Higuain would be a brilliant start to the summer and if they can bring in some of their other rumoured targets Arsenal may be better positioned than they have been for years to begin to challenge for the League title once more.

Here is Higuain doing what he does best.
