The Daily Mail are reporting that Arsenal have finally completed the signing of Argentina international Gonzalo Higuain in a deal which could reach a staggering £50m. Finally, Gooners across the land will be forced to come up with another excuse as to why they haven’t won a trophy in god knows how long. However, brace yourselves Arsenal fans, there is more news. Oh yes, the same paper are suggesting that billionaire shareholder Alisher Usmanov is breathing down the gaffer’s neck to continue the money splurge and sign Manchester United’s Wayne Rooney.
Just imagine a frontline of Higuain, Rooney, Walcott, Podolski, Giroud and *ahem* Gervinho, although the latter looks to be heading out the Emirates exit with fellow flops Maouane Chamakh and Nicklas Bendtner.
The world are expecting big things from the Gunners next season, especially those who fork out the money to support them each week, and you get the feeling if they don’t deliver it then the pressure on Wenger may be too much this time round.
Higuain, 25, has supposedly agreed a four-year deal worth around £150,000-a-week after a £22m transfer fee was given the green light.
Higuain scored 16 goals in 28 La Liga appearances and finished the campaign with a shot accuracy of 65%, which is far superior than Rooney’s. The England frontman played 27 Premier League games and scored 12, accumulating a shot accuracy of just 56%, although he was often deployed in a deeper role.
Let your mouths water, Gooners.
