Toulouse midfielder Etienne Capoue has today revealed that he has passed his medical at Spurs, leading to a wave of optimism around the White Hart Lane club. But who is he? We at Football Friends have been digging to find a little bit more information on the Premier League’s new arrival. Here are five facts on Capoue.
1) The 25-year-old was shifted around as a youngster, playing his youth team football at local club Niort before moving on to FC Chauray, Angers and then his current club Toulouse.
2) He progressed through the Toulouse ranks before making his first team debut in December 2007 in a 1-0 win over Ligue 1 side Lille, and he has since played 140 league games for the club.
3) After representing France at U18, U19 and U21 levels, Capoue made his senior debut in August last year in a friendly against Uruguay.
4) In 2008-09 the midfielder was awarded with the Ligue One Young Player of the Year award.
5) Last season Capoue made 34 league appearances and scored seven goals, created 24 chances and held a pass completion of 80%. He also made an average of eight defensive actions per game.
Do Spurs now possess the strongest midfield in the English topflight? In my opinion, yes.
