Should Chelsea Cash In On Midfielder? The Statistics

Rafa Benitez may have left the Premier League but his presence is still being felt. First he swooped Liverpool shot-stopper Pepe Reina, then the Reds centre-back Martin Skertl on a season-long loan, both of whom he worked with at Anfield. It now looks like his focusing towards the English topflight again as Chelsea midfielder Jon Obi Mikel is supposedly on his radar. But should the Blues cash in?

Jose Mourinho has already send Oriol Romeu to Valencia for a year, and should he invite John Terry back into the frame then the England defender can slot back beside Gary Cahill with David Luiz pushing forward into an anchor role. Brazilian Ramires is an odds-on starter for the west Londoners, and with Michael Essien returning from Real Madrid they are more than covered in that area.

So how does the Nigerian shape up against the others?

Mikel held the highest pass success (89%) from the four, with Ramires second (85%), but his duel success falls slightly low. His three defensive actions per game was also one of the lowest of in the midfield and he created almost nothing going forward during his 22 league games.

So should Chelsea cash in if Napoli come calling? I’d say yes. But it’s not down to me, is it?
