Manchester United’s Forgotten Man – Why Javier Hernandez Deserves More Credit

Mention the Manchester United frontline and you get the standard replies regarding Robin van Persie’s excellence, Wayne Rooney’s supposed switch to Chelsea or Danny Welbeck’s single goal last season. And although all three are viable discussion topics, it has left me saddened that one of my favourite players, Javier Hernandez, is not receiving the praise he deserves.

The Mexican is one of the most natural finishers in the country, yet he is considered fourth choice behind the aforementioned trio above. He may not offer the creative spark of Rooney, nor the incredible goals that van Persie flashes in. He may not even offer the versatility than Welbeck can, put stick Chicharito in the six-yard box all season and he will score you a hatful of goals.

Needless to say, his shot accuracy surpassed all three of the others, and his goals to game ratio was bettered by just van Persie, yet the former Guadalajara forward gets none of the praise.

Still only 25, Hernandez has also hit 35 goals in 53 games for his country, and 50 in 117 in total for Manchester United.

If Rooney was to leave the club this summer, it’s unlikely that Moyes would allow Chicharito to depart as well. But, for me, Hernandez needs to leave Old Trafford to really fulfil his potential.

You don’t know what you’ve got til it’s gone, United.
